This week we completed the installation of a test window that was ordered to fit into an existing opening on a large window project. The project involves replacing all of the windows in a historic mansion in Marin County. To ensure the proper fit and window configuration we worked with Marvin Windows and Doors to order one window with a couple of options from the factory. These options included two different types of Ogee Lugs. An Ogee lug is something that is found on the bottom part of the upper sash of a wood double hung window. When wood window were originally built during the 19th century it provided added structure to the sash. Now they are used to provide historically accurate windows to match a specific period.

Marvin has a couple different type of ogee lugs. The one shown above is the one that we are using on this project. A couple of the photos below show the lug on the left side of the window. On this window it was ordered with a lug on one side and the standard window configuration without a lug on the right. This allowed us to show the owner and architect exactly how the lug would look and how it would provide detail to match the original windows.
