Frequently customers ask what the small one way baffles or flaps are on the front of vinyl or aluminum windows. These baffles cover the “weeps” or drainage holes in windows and doors. Clogged weep holes can create potential water intrusion problems when they ask as dams during winter storms and prevent water from properly draining from a window weep system. We recommend customer’s clean out their weep holes at least once a year. This prevents the build up of debris, bugs, dirt, etc and prevent potential water issues from a window track overflowing during a significant rain. As we move into the fall, it is an excellent time to take a look at your weep holes and make sure they function.
Milgard has an excellent video showing how to clean out the weep system on a Tuscany window.
