Old Town Glass is a leading supplier and installer of insulated glass units. Insulated glass is also known as thermal pane glass and double pane glass. The components that make up insulated glass vary by manufacturer and fabricator. Different components, glass types, spacer bars, and fill gases are combined into one unit to create an energy efficient product that helps one reach a desired goal.
Choosing the proper insulated glass in a window, sometimes can be more complicated than picking the window frame to use.
Insulated glass can be installed in a variety of window types, from:
- Old or new site built wood window frames
- Existing double pane glass that has a seal failure
- Windows with clear double pane glass, requiring an upgrade to LowE
The following terminology applies to insulated glass and is used to describe its properties:
- U Value
- SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient)
- Visible Transmittance
Please visit our terminology section for more information on the terms and their definitions.
We work with a number of fabricators to bring our customer’s products from Guardian, PPG, and Cardinal. The insulated glass market is continuously evolving, recently Northern California has seen the introduction of triple pane insulated LowE glass and radiant heated insulated glass units entering the residential market.
