We have six personnel trained in Lead Safe Work Practices for the purpose of repair and replacement of windows and glazing in residential dwellings and childcare facilities, constructed prior to 1978.

How the EPA Lead Based Paint RRP Rule Affects Your  Window & Door Installation

If we are installing a new window (excludes: replacement “zbar” style windows) or door in your home and it was constructed prior to 1978, by law,  we must provide you with the following:

Prior to beginning work on your project, we need to have the last page of the booklet signed and returned to us.

If you are a landlord or property manager and we are performing work in a residence occupied by a tenant, the occupant must be provided with the pamphlet, prior to the installation.

As a window replacement and glass & glazing contractor, Old Town Glass is affected by this rule.  Any window replacement in homes or child care facilities, constructed prior to 1978 is affected by these regulation.

In order to comply with the EPA’s RRP Program Rule, we have 6 personnel trained as EPA Certified Renovators.  In addition  to training our personnel, Old Town Glass is becoming certified as a EPA RRP Firm.

Background Information on Renovate Right:

EPA’s Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Program Rule

On April 22, 2008, EPA issued a revision to the Lead-based Paint Activities Regulations to address safe work practices for those performing renovations on homes, day care centers and schools built prior to 1978. Even though the Lead Pre program has been in affect since 1999, many remodelers have ignored the EPA education requirements as long as they were not “abating” lead-based paint. Beginning in April 2010, a new rule will require firms as well as their workers who perform renovation work in buildings built prior to 1978 to become certified in lead paint safe practices. Firms will need to register with the EPA and their employees will need to undergo certified lead-safety training. EPA defines a “firm” as any company, partnership, corporation, sole proprietorship, or individual that performs renovations for compensation. This means that a self-employed contractor will need to have a firm certification as well as the renovator accreditation. Each firm will be required to have at least one or more “Certified Renovators" for each job. The Certified Renovators responsibility will be to certify that all safe work practices are followed and to train the renovation workers. A Renovation worker is a person who has been trained on the job by a certified renovator to follow lead paint safe work practices.
